Learn to Swim for Senior Level I:Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
Prerequisites: None

To maintain social distance class capacities have been reduced. Masks are required outside of the water. Appropriate swim attire is required.

Objectives:
• Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side
• Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
• Bobbing
• Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
• Front and back glides and back float
• Recover to vertical position from a front glide and back
• Combined arm and leg actions on front with alternating arm action, 2 body lengths
• Front crawl, 15 yards
• Combined arm and leg actions on front with simultaneous arm action (modified breaststroke), 2 body lengths
• Breaststroke, 15 yards
• Elementary backstroke, 15 yards
• Scissors kick, 15 yards

In partnership with YMCA, DPR brings you a senior water aerobics exercise program geared to help improve overall health and quality of life by improving strength, endurance, range of motion, balance and coordination in a low impact and shallow water aquatic setting. Can be low impact and include bicep curls with water weights, wall pushes, leg lifts and marching in place.

UDC Senior Bodywise Water Aerobic

This class is a full body cardiovascular strengthening work out for Seniors. It is designed to challenge participants and improve fitness all while having fun in the water. The program can be modified for different levels, body types or specific needs and accommodations.

PLEASE NOTE: This course, offered in partnership with University of D.C., Requires a current Body Wise membership with the UDC Office of Gerontology and a Code for Registration.

Water Wizards- Senior Swim Team

For adult swimmers ages 18-99

This is our competitive swim team. Swimmers must be able to complete, a minimum, 25 yards of Freestyle using rhythmic side breathing, Backstroke, and either Breaststroke or Butterfly. All strokes will be fine-tuned by a Water Safety Certified Instructor!

This level focuses on stroke construction, stabilizing kicks, and aerobic system development.

Swimmers must attend a minimum of 2 practices per week and be able to attend competitions at least once per month, competition schedule permitting.

Minimum Training sets include:

4 x 25 Freestyle @ 1:00

4 x 25 Flutter Kick @ 1:20

Suggested Equipment:

Training: Mesh bag, Fins, Kickboard, 2 goggles, 2 caps, swimsuits
